How old is Jesus when He was baptized?

Jesus was baptized when He was about 30 years old. It’s hard to say exactly how old He was because it is impossible to pinpoint an exact age for Jesus or any other person from history. There are many issues involved in dating the life of a person, who might have been born before others were born, and died much later than you’d expect someone at their age to live, and so on. This is why all references to Jesus’ age should be interpreted with caution and moderation.

In Christianity, baptism is the rite of initiation that is signified by either being submerged in water or having water poured on one’s head.

Judaism has historically valued ritual immersion as a consecration or a symbol of purification (in the mikvah, a postmenstrual or ritual bath used by women) (in rituals of conversion, accompanied by special prayers). It played a special role in the Essenes’ rituals. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, according to the Gospels.

The Gospel of Matthew portrays the risen Christ giving his followers the “Great Commission”: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This is despite the fact that there is no actual account of Jesus instituting baptism.

Why Jesus took baptism at the age of 30?

Jesus took baptism at the age of 30 in accordance with the Jewish tradition. Jesus was a Jew by birth, to serve as a priest or rabbi, it was common to be of age 30. The 3  factors that triggered his education were education, maturity, and experience.

Numbers 4:3. In Mathew 3:11 Jesus took up the baptism to fulfill all righteousness aside from the fulfilling of the aforementioned verse, Jesus was about to embark on His great work, and it was appropriate that He be recognized publicly by His forerunner.(Isaiah 40:3)

Jesus didn’t need to repent or turn from sin, rather, his baptism served as a sign to John, and future generations of believers, that he was the Messiah. With this confirmation in place, John’s mission to prepare the way for the Messiah was complete.

How old was John when he baptized Jesus?

Luke 3:23 KJV

Luke 3:23 tells us as much, saying, “Jesus himself began at about thirty years of age.”This takes us back to Biblical times, in order to be accepted as a priest there was an age requirement which is clearly stated in  Numbers 4:3 that a man must be at least 30 years old to hold such an office.

When was Jesus baptized?

Jesus got baptized in the autumn of A.D 27.(Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21–22) Inasmuch as the baptism of Christ occurred in the autumn, it is reasonable to believe that it may have occurred during a festival.

The autumn was the time of three important festivals: Rosh Hashanah, or the festival of the blowing of the trumpets (Leviticus 23:24; Numbers 29:1) the Day of Atonement (Exodus 30:10; Leviticus 16); and the Feast of Tabernacles (Exodus 23:16; Leviticus 23:34). At the third festival all males were expected to appear before the Lord at Jerusalem (Exodus 23:14–17).

The path taken by Jews traveling between Galilee and Jerusalem lay through the Jordan valley (Luke 2:42), and if Jesus took this path in His journey to Jerusalem, He would pass near where John was baptizing at Bethabara (John 1:28; Matthew 3:1). It is possible that when Jesus heard the message proclaimed by John, He recognized His time to start His earthly ministry. This marked the end of His private life in Nazareth and the beginning of His three-and-a-half years of public ministry (Acts 1:21, 22; 10:37–40).

Was Jesus baptized before He was crucified?

Jesus Christ wasn’t baptized before the crucifixion. John had baptized him at the beginning of his ministry (Mathew 3:13). Although Jesus Christ talked about His future crucifixion (Mark 10:32-39), He uses the word baptized and baptism to describe the experience on the cross.

This is a reference to His physical and spiritual death He would experience on the cross. The baptism was also a crucial step Jesus took as he began his ministry, an approximately three-year journey that eventually led him to the cross.

How many times was Jesus baptized?

Jesus was baptized twice. Aside from the physical baptism which was carried out by John the Baptist (Mathew 3:13), Jesus spoke about him being baptized again in Luke 12:50.

Luke 12:50 KJV

But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!-

Luke 12:50 KJV

Here He was talking about his death, which he saw as baptism. Romans 6:3-5 makes reference to being baptized in Christ, this isn’t about being baptized with water For the remission of sins, but being dead in Christ, as He died, buried, and resurrected. John couldn’t baptize in Christ because Christ wasn’t dead at the time of John.

It is also worth noting that there are other forms of baptism in the Bible (Hebrew 6:1-2). Such baptisms include; Baptism of the holy spirit (Luke 3:16, Acts 11:16,1 Corinthians 12:13), the baptism of Moses(1 Corinthians 10:2), the baptism of John (Luke 20:4, Acts 18:25,19:3), the baptism of Jesus (Luke 12:50, Mark 10:38-40, Acts 2:38, 19:5)

How old was Jesus when He ended His ministry?

The Bible doesn’t provide exact birth or death dates for Jesus, so we cannot say with certainty His exact age at the time of His crucifixion. Luke 3:23 indicates that Jesus was about 30 years old.

He began ministering just after his baptism by his cousin and preacher, John the Baptist. If he was about 30 years old when he started his ministry. This lasted for 3-and-a-half years, so it is safe to assume that Jesus was crucified when he was 33 years old.

Was Jesus baptized as a baby?

Jesus wasn’t baptized as a baby.  The Bible tells us specifically that Jesus was baptized as an adult and by immersion underwater. The Bible reports that Jesus was 30 years of age when He received baptism, not an infant.

If infancy was the appropriate moment in life to receive water baptism, then we would have expected our Lord to have modeled this pattern for us by being baptized as an infant Himself. Instead, the Lord waited until He came into His earthly ministry as an adult to be baptized.

Secondly, we are told explicitly that after He was baptized, Jesus came “up out of the water.”(Mark 1:10) This description precludes the possibility that Jesus received water baptism through a sprinkling or pouring of water over the head (which is commonly practiced among those who advocate infant baptism.
